Where does the Bundesliga take place?

The Bundesliga comprises plenty of matches, in which each team will play once on their home venue, and once away, on their opponent’s ground. Therefore, the football stadiums where the Bundesliga competition takes place will be distinctive from game to game, matchday to matchday.

What is Bundesliga?

Bundesliga is a German football competition. It is the highest tier in the German football system, similar to the Premier League in England, or the La Liga in Spain. The Bundesliga was founded in 1963 by Deutscher Fußball-Bund, but now it is organized by the Deutsche Fußball Liga.

The Bundesliga competition is run under the round-robin format. There are 18 teams participating, so each team will have to join 34 matches with the other 17 teams. Half of the matches are home games, and the other half is away counterparts.

Three points are awarded to the victorious team in a single match, and the loser will gain zero points. If the match ends up equal, both teams will receive one point. Eventually, the team that finished the competition with the highest point will be the winner. In case there are several teams are tied in points, the following tiebreaker criteria will be applied:

1. Goal difference for the entire season

2. Total goals scored for the entire season

3. Head-to-head results (total points)

4. Head-to-head goals scored

5. Head-to-head away goals scored

6. Total away goals scored for the entire season

The Bundesliga has a “promoting and relegating” relation with the 2. Bundesliga. Accordingly, the bottom two teams will be relegated to the 2. Bundesliga. The team at 16th position in the Bundesliga and the third-placed team in the 2. Bundesliga will compete and the winner will qualify for the Bundesliga next season. 

Regarding the top teams in the Bundesliga, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place will go to the Group stage of Champions League, 5th place is qualified for the Group stage of Europa League, and 6th place will be automatically transferred to the third qualifying round of Europa League.
