Who are Serie A top scorers?
About Italy Serie A
In the first section, we would like to equip you with the most overview about Seria A and figure out what our favorite players are doing in this league.
What is Serie A?
As we all know, Serie A is the annual highest national football competition in Italy. Due to sponsorship reasons by an Italian telecommunications company called TIM, this league is also called Serie A TIM, which is also the name that appeared in the official logo of the competition.
The game was actually founded in 1898, more than 100 years ago. However, it became more popular when changing the format to the round-robin tournament in the 1929-1930 season. This highest-placed Italian football competition is ranked third in the “Big Five”, behind the Premier League and LaLiga, and above the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.

How does the Italy Serie A work?
Since Serie A changed its format to the round robin, there have been several adjustments in the number of participants joining this league, as of below:
-
18 clubs: 1929–1934
-
16 clubs: 1934–1943
-
20 clubs: 1946–1947
-
21 clubs: 1947–1948
-
20 clubs: 1948–1952
-
18 clubs: 1952–1967
-
16 clubs: 1967–1988
-
18 clubs: 1988–2004
-
20 clubs: 2004–present
As in the round-robin tournament, each team in Serie A will have to play against the other teams twice, once at home and once away. It is called the andata and ritorno periods in the competition. Since the 1994-95 season, the winning team in a single game has been awarded three points, meanwhile, the loser has no points. On the other hand, both clubs will receive one point for a tied match.
Eventually, the team that finished with the highest aggregate points will be victorious. The tiebreaker rules are going to work in case there are a couple of teams that end up equal.
