Manchester United has cancelled its yearly awards dinner.

Manchester United has decided to cancel their traditional end-of-season awards dinner amid the turmoil of their current campaign.

Under the leadership of Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils have faced significant challenges this season, with the team languishing in eighth place in the Premier League table. This decline has led to a reconsideration of the annual awards event, which typically takes place at the end of the season.

Following discussions between Ten Hag and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's football leadership team, it was agreed that holding the awards dinner later this month would be inappropriate. With the FA Cup final against Manchester City looming, the decision was made to prioritize the team's focus and avoid any distractions.

While players will still receive awards, the traditional ceremony and dinner will not be held this year. Instead, awards will be voted on by team-mates, coaches, and fans.

This is not the first time the awards dinner has been cancelled, as a similar decision was made in 2022 amid the club's struggles under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, Ten Hag's arrival in the summer of that year brought renewed hope, and he quickly made an impact by winning the Carabao Cup and securing a third-place finish in the Premier League.

The credit Erik ten Hag had accumulated has gradually diminished throughout a season that appears to be on track to surpass the disastrous 2021/22 campaign for Manchester United.

To salvage a European berth, United must secure victories and hope for favorable results in the coming week. They face Newcastle, who currently sit two places and three points ahead of them in the league, in a crucial midweek clash before concluding their domestic campaign with a visit to Brighton next Sunday.

Alternatively, winning the FA Cup would also secure European qualification for United. However, with Manchester City being the overwhelming favorites for the prestigious event, the odds are stacked against them as they head into the final showdown at Wembley later this month.
