Thomas Müller came tantalizingly close to celebrating his remarkable achievement with a goal. However, as he lunged to convert a cross from his teammate Mathys Tel during stoppage time against Manchester United, the post thwarted his efforts.

But for the 34-year-old, the missed opportunity was inconsequential. What truly mattered was the final score on Wednesday evening: 4-3 against the Red Devils, marking Müller's 100th victory in Europe's premier club competition. He achieved this feat in just his 143rd match.

This two-time Champions League winner has now reached the pinnacle of this prestigious tournament. Müller joins an exclusive club as only the third player in the competition's history to achieve 100 wins. Prior to him, only Cristiano Ronaldo (with 115 wins for Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus) and Iker Casillas (with 101 wins for Real Madrid and FC Porto) had accomplished this remarkable feat. Notably, Müller's journey has been with a single club: the German record champions.

"Reflecting on it, it's been an incredibly long journey that I've had the privilege to embark on in the Champions League," commented Müller, who, with this opening match, commenced his 16th season in the Champions League, equalling Zlatan Ibrahimović and Xavi in joint 12th place on the all-time list. However, Müller being Müller, he had the final word on this milestone: "But I'm not finished yet, so this is just another step in the journey," he vowed.

WHAT NEXT: Bayern will hope to pick up another victory this weekend when they take on Bochum in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
