New reports suggest that Kylian Mbappe's anticipated transfer to Real Madrid may not be as straightforward as initially believed. The French World Cup-winning forward's contract with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire this summer, and he is expected to depart the club. While several top European clubs, including Liverpool, have been linked with Mbappe, last week's claims from French outlet Le Parisien indicated that the player had made a decision to join Real Madrid before the start of the next season.

Contrary to previous reports, it appears that the move of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid is far from finalized. According to the Independent, contract negotiations between Real Madrid and Mbappe's representatives have hit a roadblock, specifically concerning the player's wages. While Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Mbappe's current club, has made an offer to retain him, it is widely accepted that the forward will be leaving Paris this summer. However, the terms of PSG's offer are believed to be only a marginal improvement on his existing contract.

Kylian Mbappe's substantial wage demands have reportedly posed challenges for Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Arsenal. Even clubs known for their significant spending, like Real Madrid, are seemingly shifting their transfer strategy towards developing young players rather than solely focusing on acquiring "Galacticos" as they have done in the past. Liverpool, for instance, would not be willing to break their wage structure to accommodate Mbappe's demands. It appears that Real Madrid may adopt a similar stance in negotiations with the player.

Kylian Mbappe is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after players in European football. However, his high salary at PSG could potentially limit his options for a move. Real Madrid came close to signing the 25-year-old in 2022, but he ultimately decided to extend his contract with PSG.

If Mbappe fails to reach an agreement with Real Madrid, it could open the door for other clubs to pursue him. However, it is unlikely that Liverpool or Arsenal would disrupt their current wage structures to accommodate his arrival. If Mbappe is interested in testing himself in English football, he may need to make compromises on his earning potential in order to experience a genuine challenge outside of the French top-flight.
