A different version of Manchester United

"They just look like they have something," - Gary Neville said about Manchester United after the win in round 19 of the Premier League 2022/23 season.

Gary Neville believes Manchester United will finish in the top four and will therefore be eligible to play in the Champions League the following year. After defeating Bournemouth 3-0 on Tuesday, Erik ten Hag's hot team closed the gap on second-place Manchester City to just one point. Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford all scored to secure a resounding victory, and United legend Neville was delighted.

Neville, a Sky Sports analyst, was asked if he would be surprised if United didn't place among the top four, he said: "Yes. However, only 17 games have been played; there is still a long way to go; anything can happen."

Manchester United had good performance in the match against Bournemouth

Neville also noted the improvement of Manchester United: "But they look like they have something—a bit of experience in midfield with Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, and Fernandes." They look wiser. Rashford is in form; they need a center forward, but they have forwards in form. "They're not particularly strong defensively, but they're holding their own."

Neville said that with the contentious departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from Old Trafford, United have "knitted together more." He stated that Manchester United is in good shape following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure:

"I think coming through the situation with Cristiano, coming through the situation with Harry Maguire, and overcoming the difficult start, they have all bonded together more than what they would have done with an ordinary or normal start. Ten Hag is now in a strong position to call the shots, but they need a striker."

Marcus Rashford continued to shine

Under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United continues to operate admirably. They now have 35 points after their third straight clean sheet and fourth straight Premier League victory. The manager and his players will seek to continue their unstoppable play when they face Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, and Luke Shaw made up Ten Hag's back five. The lineup had a vintage vibe to it, as if the current manager had asked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to guest choose tonight's defense.

The ability to change personnel while maintaining a team's structure and style is a sign of excellence. Bournemouth were the perfect test subjects for an XI that had four new players—Donny van de Beek was the other—as well as an altered rearguard alignment, with Shaw switching to left-back from center-back, where he played against Wolves.

Anthony Martial misdirected the ball when Shaw sent it to him after Bruno Fernandes transferred it to him, but this was a positive development. Justice was served when Jaidon Anthony missed the free kick after Casemiro rushed back to slide-tackle Philip Billing. The free kick was given, perhaps unkindly, by Michael Salisbury.

Marcus Rashford continued to shine

United were suffocating Bournemouth, and after Marcus Rashford powered along the left and was tugged back, they scored from the free-kick: Christian Eriksen dipped the delivery on to the boot of Casemiro, who volleyed it in.

Advantage United, but the way they slumbered at a short corner, allowing Dominic Solanke a free header, which he spurned, was an alarm call. United soon had Rashford charging down the right and Billing yanking over Casemiro for a foul. Eriksen fired the free-kick at goal, but the visitors’ wall rescued them.

Donny van de Beek’s injury

The injury Donny van de Beek received in the last minutes of Manchester United's 3-0 victory over Bournemouth is still too fresh, according to manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutch midfielder was given the chance to start in a central position, but his evening was cut short when he was hurt after a challenge from Marcos Senesi, who slid on the slick field as he made the tackle. Donny's face was etched with sorrow as he was made to leave the game, and Alejandro Garnacho took his place before the halftime horn.

Ten Hag highlighted his worry during his post-match comments, despite the fact that it is still too soon to determine the severity of the injury. When Stewart Gardner of MUTV questioned him about any Donny news, he responded:

"No, that is too quick. We have to wait, and then you can make the right diagnosis, so the medical team has to do their work. But it doesn't look great. "What has happened to Donny is bad, in the first place, for Donny, but it is also bad news for Manchester United if it is a bad injury."

There was also an update on Martial, who appeared to take a hit as he attempted to convert a far-post header in the second half and also went straight down the tunnel after being substituted.

Thankfully, the striker's situation appears to be improving, especially with Everton's game against United at Old Trafford on Friday night in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.

"Yes, I think he will be good," Ten Hag told MUTV. "He will be fine. He continued the game. I hope he will recover overnight and be fresh for Friday."

Due to an injury, Antony was not included in the matchday roster. The Reds will rapidly reassemble in preparation for the match against Frank Lampard's team.
