Andre Onana has reaffirmed his contentment with his decision to join Manchester United despite their underwhelming performance, following his recent return to Inter Milan over the weekend.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper, who made the switch to Old Trafford for £47 million last summer after contributing significantly to Inter's cup victories and Champions League final appearance in the 2022-23 season, revisited his former club nine months later. He witnessed Inter's 2-2 draw against Cagliari at the San Siro, a result that propelled them closer to securing the Serie A title. Onana, who clinched the league title with Inter, was questioned about his sentiments towards the Nerazzurri and whether he regretted departing for Old Trafford.

His response was resolute: “I am content where I am. However, I am genuinely thrilled for Inter, a remarkable team with exceptional players and a superb coach. Reflecting on what we accomplished together last season is exhilarating.

“Inter means family to me; I adore the fans. I wish them all the success. Regrets? None. I am content at Manchester United. Nonetheless, I am overjoyed for Inter; the club is phenomenal, and the team is exceptional.”

Onana's return coincides with Inter's march towards the Italian title. He disclosed that his motive for the visit was to extend his best wishes to his former team.

“That’s precisely why I came here,” he affirmed. “I won't be able to be here next week, so I came today to offer my congratulations. It's a historic milestone for Inter, and I am genuinely delighted for the team, which has displayed remarkable performance this season. I hope they continue their winning streak in the coming years.”

While Inter advances towards another Serie A triumph, Manchester United has encountered a decline in form this season. Their recent 2-2 draw against Bournemouth leaves Erik ten Hag's squad in seventh place, with a top-four finish appearing increasingly improbable.

Onana's own performance has fluctuated throughout the season. He faced criticism for several costly errors earlier in the campaign, and the 28-year-old has conceded a significant 68 goals across all competitions this season.

Sharing insights into overcoming these challenges, Onana revealed: “Just six months ago, I was hailed as the best. However, within six months, circumstances can change, and you must adapt. In life, everything is transient.

“We are united in this journey. I express my gratitude to Tom [Heaton], Altay [Bayındır], Richard [Hartis], and Craig [Mawson]. It's been a challenging period, a tough situation, and a challenging start for me.

''They were there with me. They told me, ‘Andre, listen, we know who you are. We were sitting in front of the TV, we were watching you playing the Champions League semi-final. You were almost close to winning against City in the final.’

“‘So we all know who you are. Take your time. Most of the keepers who have been here at Manchester United had difficulty in the beginning.’”
