Luton Town provided an update on captain Tom Lockyer, stating that he is still undergoing tests and scans following his cardiac arrest on the field during the Premier League match against Bournemouth.

The match at the VitalLuton Town has confirmed that captain Tom Lockyer is still undergoing tests and scans after suffering a cardiac arrest during the team's Premier League match against Bournemouth. The game was halted and eventually abandoned with the score at 1-1 due to the medical emergency involving Lockyer. In the 58th minute, he collapsed on the field and was subsequently stretchered off while receiving attention from medical teams, receiving applause from fans in a show of solidarity. The club has reported that Lockyer is now in a stable condition following the collapse.

Luton Town has clarified that Lockyer's collapse was due to a cardiac arrest, but he was responsive by the time he was stretchered off. After receiving initial treatment at the stadium, he has been transferred to a hospital for further evaluation and testing.

On Sunday, Luton Town announced that it was still too early to provide significant updates on Tom Lockyer's condition. The club requested patience from the media and the public as Lockyer awaits the results of medical examinations following his collapse.

"Tom is still undergoing tests and scans, and is awaiting the results before the next steps for his recovery are determined," a statement on social media read in part. "We are unable to provide a running commentary on his situation, and request that all media please wait for any updates to be released via the club's official channels when the time is right."

Lockyer's previous collapse

Lockyer's collapse on the pitch during the recent match is not the first incident of its kind for him. Previously, during Luton Town's promotion to the Premier League, Lockyer was unable to complete the final match of the season due to a collapse, which marred the bittersweet moment. Following medical examinations, the defender underwent heart surgery for an atrial fibrillation condition before being given the green light to resume playing.

Lockyer has reassured that his heart has been thoroughly examined through scans, and the results have indicated that he is fit to return to the pitch. Despite these previous health concerns, he had received positive reports regarding his condition, leading to his clearance for a comeback.

"It was a weird one," Lockyer said recalling the previous incident. "I remember running backwards and then I went really light-headed and my legs went really weak straight away, as I was running back. I remember stumbling back and then all I remember was [physiotherapist] Chris Phillips over the top of me, and he was saying 'Locks, you're coming off'.

"I was like 'no mate, no mate, I'm fine', but he was saying 'no, it's serious Locks, you've collapsed. You're coming off'. Then it dawned on me that I was on the floor and this is actually serious. I just got really emotional. I couldn't stop crying on the floor."

The situation is undeniably concerning, and the entire Premier League has united in support of the Welshman, hoping for a speedy recovery.
