Mohamed Salah Spotted Meeting PSG President - Could This Be a New Transfer Deal to Replace Kylian Mbappe?

In July, English and French media were abuzz with rumors of PSG's interest in superstar Mohamed Salah. According to reports, the Egyptian star had a direct meeting with PSG's president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, which allegedly took place in Morocco.

This sensitive information surfaced during a heated period, as PSG is clearly in search of a big-name star, especially with the imminent departure of Kylian Mbappe. The summer has been tumultuous for PSG, having seen Lionel Messi officially leave and Mbappe on the brink of fulfilling his dream move to Real Madrid.

However, Salah's representative, Ramy Abbas Issa, came forward to assert that there was no such meeting, and Salah currently has no plans beyond Liverpool. Despite this, PSG is rumored to be persisting with their pursuit, irrespective of whether they secure Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona or not.

PSG's apprehension stems from the concern that Dembele might not be a suitable replacement for Mbappe, given his injury-prone history. The Barcelona forward has had significant periods of absence due to injuries, making him a potential risk for PSG's ambitions.

Furthermore, experts consider Dembele incapable of filling the goal-scoring void left by Mbappe. In the previous season, Mbappe scored an impressive 41 goals in 43 matches for PSG, while Dembele's goal tally in the last two seasons combined was only 10.

Will Salah come to PSG and replace Mbappe?

Therefore, the Parisian club is in dire need of a high-quality reinforcement to pursue their Champions League aspirations. According to Le Parisien, Salah has gained the trust of PSG's president, Al Khelaifi.

Even while playing for a team with a physically demanding style like Liverpool, Salah has managed to play over 50 matches in five of the last six seasons, with the 2019/20 season seeing him play 48 matches. Moreover, he has surpassed the 30-goal mark in each of the last three seasons. Hence, Salah stands out as the ideal candidate to fill the tactical and goal-scoring void left by players like Messi and the soon-to-be-departing Mbappe.

In the 2022/23 season, Liverpool failed to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League, finishing fifth overall and consequently qualifying for the Europa League next season. For a star like Salah, this is certainly an undesirable scenario, and thus, there is a significant possibility of the Egyptian star seeking a departure.

Additionally, leaving Liverpool at this stage may be reasonable for Salah personally, as he has achieved considerable success with the Reds. At the age of 31, Salah might be seeking a fresh environment after six years of association with Anfield. However, the issue lies in whether Liverpool is willing to sell, especially after parting ways with several key players this summer, while Salah's contract still has two years remaining.
