Mauricio Pochettino expressed his frustration, describing it as "a shame" that Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke attempted to take the spotlight away from Chelsea's 6-0 victory over Everton by vying for a second-half penalty that belonged to Cole Palmer.

Pochettino clarified that Palmer is the designated penalty taker for the team and acknowledged that the incident portrayed the wrong image of the team's mentality. The Chelsea head coach emphasized the importance of collective focus and issued a warning to Jackson and Madueke, stating that they risk being dropped if they fail to learn from their actions.

"It's regrettable," Pochettino stated. "I conveyed to the players [in the dressing room] that such behavior is unacceptable. I made it clear that this is the last instance where I will tolerate such conduct. They are all implicated in this matter. If it happens again, they will all face consequences. This is not a matter to be taken lightly."

“It’s impossible after a performance like this to see this type of behaviour. If we want to be a great team, fighting for big things, we need to change and think more in a collective way. I made clear to them, and now through the media, and I say to our fans and to everyone, Cole Palmer is the penalty taker. And it’s now his choice if he wants to give the ball to another player but not in this way.”

Chelsea, trailing three points behind sixth place, held a commanding 4-0 lead when the penalty was awarded. Despite some dispute, Cole Palmer, who had already netted a hat-trick, stepped up to convert it, adding to his impressive tally of 20 goals and nine assists in the league this season.

Acknowledging the disagreement over the penalty, Palmer remarked, "Other players wanted to take it, which is understandable. I am the designated penalty taker and wanted to step up. We're simply showing our willingness to take responsibility. Perhaps the argument got a bit heated, but we were all laughing and joking about it."

Pochettino assured that the incident would not affect his selection for the upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City. "It doesn't work like this," he emphasized. "They are young and still learning. It's like being in school; they need to understand when they've made a mistake and learn from it. If they don't, then yes, we will have to take some action."

Meanwhile, Everton, currently facing a points deduction appeal for breaching profit and sustainability regulations, find themselves just two points above the relegation zone following a dismal defensive performance. Manager Sean Dyche expressed his disappointment, stating, "Defensively, we were nowhere near our usual standards. It was a dreadful night. I told them at halftime, it was miles below what we expect."
