Southampton Boss Juric Departs Following Relegation

Ivan Juric has left Southampton by mutual consent after failing to turn around the club's fortunes, with relegation from the Premier League confirmed following Sunday's 3-1 defeat to Tottenham.

Juric, who succeeded Russell Martin in December on an 18-month deal, managed just two wins from 16 matches in charge. The loss at Spurs marked Southampton’s 25th league defeat of the season and sealed their drop to the Championship with eight games still remaining — the earliest relegation in Premier League history.

"Ivan came to Southampton at a tough time and was tasked with trying to improve a squad in a difficult situation," the club said in a statement. "Unfortunately, we haven't seen performances progress the way we had hoped, but we would like to thank Ivan and his staff for their honesty and hard work as they fought against the odds to try and keep us up.

"With relegation now confirmed, we feel it's important to provide clarity for fans, players and staff as we head into a crucial summer."

Simon Rusk is expected to step in as interim boss, with club legend Adam Lallana assisting.

Juric departs after just 107 days at the helm, making his tenure the ninth-shortest in Premier League history. His sole league win came in a 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town.

Southampton are rooted to the foot of the table with just 10 points and now risk eclipsing Derby County’s infamous record-low total of 11 from the 2007-08 campaign.

Juric joined the Saints following a brief and unsuccessful spell at Roma, where he was sacked after just 12 matches. The 49-year-old has previously managed Torino, Hellas Verona, Genoa, Crotone and Mantova in his native Italy.
