Which Roulette Bets Are the Most Profitable? Calculate Bets Based On Statistics and Probabilities

When Blaise Pascal invented the roulette wheel in 18th century France, albeit by accident, he designed the wheel in a way that no one can predict the exact outcome of where the ball will land. Roulette is a game of luck, and even though there are many different strategies and systems, one has to realize that you have to have luck on your side to win in roulette.

However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t increase your chances of winning by utilizing different strategies and calculations. Yes, roulette is a game based on luck, but you can calculate the odds of winning with each bet, and place more favorable bets

Once the ‘beginner’s luck’ phase has passed, you need to learn all the basics about roulette and how it works. You should have a good understanding of all the possible bets and their outcomes, and choose roulette variants that offer better Return to Player ratio and have a lower house edge.

If you’re keen on playing online roulette with real money in the USA, this guide will help you get a better understanding of the different roulette bets, how to calculate the payout based on statistics and probabilities, and provide you with several tips on how to make the most of your roulette sessions.

Understand All The Betting Types

You have played roulette several times and you probably think that you know and understand all the bets types. Well, we are here to tell you that you are probably wrong. Yes, you know how straight-up or Red/Black work, but have you heard about the special announced bets such as Voisins or Tiers? There are many different bet types in roulette, and each one has a different payout ratio and odds of winning.

The first distinction is inside and outside bets. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to pursue a riskier strategy or play on the safer side. Of course, the riskier the bet is, the higher the reward is. If you were to bet $20 on a single number, the payout ratio is 35:1. The odds, however, differ depending on which roulette variant you have chosen. Roulette wheels with more green pockets, or zeroes, have lower Return to Play ratio, and higher house edge.

You should always aim for roulette wheels with fewer green pockets. You can find many such roulette games and all the info about them at Indian Roulette77, including everything there is about bet types, odds, and payouts.

Probability and Expected Value

There’s a unique branch in math that deals with the occurrence of a particular event happening, and it’s called probability. If you don’t remember your math teachers’ lectures about this, probability is a concept that determines how likely something is to happen. You can think of it as ‘possibility’, or the possibility of that particular thing or event happening. Since we’re talking about roulette here, the probability determines how likely it is the ball to land in a particular pocket, or what’s the possibility of the ball landing in a particular pocket (or a group).

You’re now probably wondering: Why is this important when playing roulette? Well, let’s take the European roulette wheel as an example. As you know, there are 37 pockets on the wheel: the black and red-colored numbers from 1 to 36 and the green zero. The American wheel has one more pocket, the double zero 00. What does this mean in regard to probability?

It means that if you were to bet on a number on the European roulette, any number, you have bigger chances of winning when compared to American roulette. The house edge is 2.70%, which is lower than the American roulette house edge of 5.26%. That’s because there’s one less pocket, so the probability immediately increases.

The expected value is another factor that’s closely related to the probability. Although it might seem similar, it’s a different measurement. The EV is used to determine how much value, or, in the case of roulette, how much profit you can expect from a particular bet in the long run. To calculate this, you need to calculate the probability of winning for a given bet type and the payout ratio, then subtract the probability of losing with the same bet, and the amount that you’re wagering.

We’ll save you some time: All roulette bets have a negative expected value over the long run. But, even-money bets have an EV that’s very close to zero, which means that they can be the most profitable in the long run - especially if you couple them with some betting strategy.

Betting Systems and Strategies

There’s no ‘one fits all’ betting strategy that’s superior to all the others. No roulette strategy guarantees winning, and that’s the first thing you need to remember. There’s risk involved with every system or strategy, and even if you think that there is no way to lose with some strategy, keep in mind that most tables come with betting limits. So, even if the strategy can’t fail, you might run out of money to wager, or you may reach the table limits.

Nevertheless, some strategies have been proven to work, and if executed correctly, they can increase your winning chances. Most strategies are based on mathematical systems, so they’re designed to work in the long run.

The Labouchere system - The Labouchere system is a strategy that requires you to create a sequence, and to start, you should first determine how much you want to win. Then, the bet size will be the addition of the first and the last number of your sequence, and you cross them out with every win. When all the numbers have been crossed out, it means that you have reached your goal. The Oscar’s Grind system - This is not a strategy for high-rollers, nor players who want to win big and fast. It’s a slow and steady system in which you should increase the wager after every win, but reset if you lose.

The Hollandish system - This is another system that focuses on small profits. It involves three cycles of bets, and you should come out on top with a small profit with every cycle.
