With just over a week remaining in the 2024 January transfer window, Arsenal is facing the challenge of strengthening their squad without the ability to bring in reinforcements. Mikel Arteta, who is under pressure as the team's manager, is unable to make significant signings.

The Gunners' dreams of winning the Premier League title, after a 20-year drought, are diminishing as Manchester City and Liverpool emerge as the top contenders. Arsenal fans are eager to see new signings, particularly in the forward positions. However, Arteta has already hinted that supporters may need to brace themselves for potential disappointment. Nevertheless, this does not mean that there will be no transfer activity at all before the window closes next Thursday.

Here is a roundup of the latest transfer news concerning Arsenal, both from the Emirates Stadium and beyond.

£50m Onana deal out of reach

Arsenal is facing limitations in their pursuit of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, as they are unable to make an all-out effort to sign the highly sought-after player this month. The 22-year-old, who was born in Senegal but represents Belgium at the international level, has impressed since joining Everton in a record-breaking deal last summer and is expected to be a part of Belgium's squad for Euro 2024.

Rival Premier League clubs, Manchester United and Newcastle, have also been linked with Onana, who is valued at £50 million. However, Arsenal is unable to meet Everton's asking price. According to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad, the Gunners are not in a position to pursue a move for Onana due to concerns about the financial implications it could have on their compliance with financial fair play regulations.

Kiwior's agent clarifies Arsenal future

Jakub Kiwior's agent, Pawel Ziemonczyk, does not anticipate the Arsenal defender leaving the club before the deadline day. Despite enduring a challenging year at the Emirates, where he has primarily been utilized as a left-back this season, the 23-year-old Poland international has attracted interest from AC Milan in Serie A.

However, Ziemonczyk believes that Kiwior will remain at Arsenal and continue to compete for his place in the team. Speaking to Polish channel Kanal Sportowy, the agent stated, "Kuba is an Arsenal player. There are no indications that they want to part ways with him, and I don't expect anything to happen during the winter transfer window."

German outlet Sport1 reports that Borussia Dortmund, the Bundesliga powerhouse, is interested in signing 16-year-old Arsenal forward Chido Obi. Obi has impressed with his performances for Arsenal's under-18 side this season, catching the attention of Dortmund. The German club hopes to lure him by offering him his first professional contract.

In England, clubs are not permitted to sign players under the age of 17 on professional terms. Obi's next birthday is in November, which means he is currently ineligible for a professional contract in England. Arsenal is reportedly eager to retain the services of the talented Danish forward, having signed him from Kjobenhavns Boldklub in 2022.
