Chelsea could potentially earn a significant financial windfall if Bayern Munich decides to sell 21-year-old German talent Jamal Musiala. The highly-rated youngster has been linked with an £80 million move to some of the world's biggest clubs, including Manchester City and Liverpool.

Musiala joined Bayern Munich at the age of 16 after leaving Chelsea's academy. At the time, an agreement was reached for a compensation package worth approximately £170,000 (€200,000). Although there is no buy-back clause in the 2019 switch, sources have revealed that a sell-on fee of 20 percent was included in the deal, potentially benefiting Chelsea in the event of a future transfer.

Last week, former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand spoke highly of Musiala, praising the Germany international, who already has 25 caps, and stating that he has the potential to win the prestigious Ballon d'Or award.

Musiala's current contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire in 2026. Other clubs are monitoring the situation closely, hoping that Bayern fails to reach an agreement on an extension with the talented midfielder. In his most recent Bundesliga match against Mainz, Musiala scored one goal and provided two assists, further enhancing his reputation and attracting attention from potential suitors.

If Jamal Musiala were to be sold for £80 million, Chelsea would be entitled to a significant £16 million share of that transaction. This sum could potentially assist Chelsea in meeting the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules, even if received in instalments.

Chelsea has maintained that they will remain compliant with the Premier League's financial regulations, despite rival clubs suggesting that they need to generate substantial funds in the upcoming transfer window to avoid any breaches. The club learned a valuable lesson from their past dealings when they failed to secure a sell-on clause during Romelu Lukaku's departure to Everton in 2014. As a result, when Lukaku was later sold to Manchester United for £75 million in 2017, Chelsea did not receive any portion of that transfer fee.

While there is no guarantee that Musiala will be sold this summer, Bayern Munich has expressed their desire to secure his long-term future at the club. However, if contract negotiations continue to stall, it becomes increasingly likely that interested clubs will make their moves as the next transfer window approaches.

Chelsea themselves have been linked with Musiala, as he fits their strategy of signing promising young talents. Mauricio Pochettino has previously praised Musiala, stating that he is one of the best young players in the world alongside Gavi and Pedri. Chelsea will continue to monitor the situation closely as it develops.

Since joining Bayern Munich, Jamal Musiala has achieved considerable success, winning multiple Bundesliga titles with the club. Additionally, he has gained international recognition, earning 25 caps for the German national team, despite being eligible to play for England due to his previous participation in their youth teams.

When Musiala was 16 years old, Chelsea expressed a desire for him to remain at the club. Having been with Chelsea since the age of eight, he had established a longstanding connection with the London-based team. However, the young talent ultimately made the decision to embark on a new adventure in Munich with Bayern.

It is understood that the offer of a contract played a crucial role in Chelsea being entitled to compensation from Bayern for Musiala's transfer. The terms of the agreement likely ensured that Chelsea would receive financial compensation should Musiala move on from Bayern in the future.

Clubs typically strive to reach an agreement on compensation to avoid the matter escalating to a tribunal, which can be financially burdensome.

In a previous report by Mail Sport, it was revealed that Chelsea had been instructed by a tribunal to pay additional compensation to Brighton for the signings of Shumaira Mheuka and Zak Sturge. The tribunal ruled that Chelsea must pay up to £7.65 million for the two teenage talents they had secured.

Both Mheuka and Sturge made their moves in 2022, and now Brighton could potentially benefit from a lucrative payday, in addition to holding 20 percent sell-on fees for both players.
