Only two players currently active in the Premier League have scored more than Son Heung-min’s 123 top-flight goals.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to exercise a one-year extension on Son Heung-min’s contract, securing his future with the club beyond this season.

The Spurs and South Korea captain last signed a contract in 2021, which is due to expire in seven months. However, the club holds an option to extend it by another year, a step they fully intend to take, according to Telegraph Sport.

This decision will see Son enter his second decade with Spurs, having joined from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 in a £22 million transfer—a move now regarded as one of the club’s best in modern times.

Ange Postecoglou appointed the 32-year-old as club captain following Hugo Lloris’s departure. During his time at Spurs, Son has been instrumental in helping the club become a regular presence in the Champions League.

The forward has scored double-digit goals in every season except his first, with 123 Premier League goals to date, placing him as the joint-third highest active scorer in the competition behind only Mohamed Salah (164) and Jamie Vardy (140).

When asked earlier this season about his contract, Son emphasized that his focus remains on ending Tottenham’s trophy drought, which dates back to 2008, rather than discussing a new deal.

During his time at Tottenham, Son Heung-min has reached the finals of both the Champions League and EFL Cup, though a trophy has so far eluded him.

“I’m fully focused on this season and just want to win something for everyone at the club—the players, the staff, everyone who deserves it,” Son said. “That’s my goal."

He continued, “In the future, who knows what might happen, but I’ll keep giving everything for this club. It’s been nearly 10 years here, and I put my all into it."

Son added, “I still have a contract with Spurs, which is very important, and I’ll give everything until it ends.”

Spurs are currently seventh in the Premier League with 16 points—nine points off leaders Liverpool but just two points shy of the top four. Under Ange Postecoglou, the team is also performing well in the Europa League, sitting second in the 36-team table after winning their first three matches, and has progressed to the EFL Cup quarter-finals, where they’ll face Manchester United at home next month.
