Global Competitive Changes

LoL Esports is focused on enhancing the competitive nature of international events. In 2023, changes were made to the formats of MSI and Worlds to eliminate matches that didn't impact the tournament's outcome. In 2024, the aim is to further elevate the importance of MSI and strengthen the connection between MSI and Worlds.

To achieve this, a base of 3 Worlds slots will be allocated to the LEC, LCS, LCK, and LPL. The PCS and VCS will retain two Worlds slots each, while the LLA and CBLOL will retain one Worlds slot each. These changes will introduce new opportunities for teams and regions to showcase their strength and earn additional Worlds slots based on their performance at MSI.

For the first time, the winning team at MSI will be granted an automatic spot at Worlds, which also counts as an additional slot for their region. The region with the next best performance at MSI will secure an extra seed for their region as well. To ensure commitment to success in their home league, the team that qualifies early for Worlds must also qualify for their region's Summer Playoffs (except for the LEC, where they would qualify for the LEC Regional Finals).

To illustrate this with an example from MSI 2023, JDG would automatically qualify for Worlds, allowing a total of 4 LPL teams to participate. The next best-performing region, such as the LCK in this case, would secure an additional Worlds seed, bringing their total to 4 as well.

These adjustments aim to increase the stakes and establish a meaningful connection between two major moments in the LoL Esports calendar: MSI and Worlds.

MSI & Worlds 2024 Locations

LoL Esports has announced the exciting locations for two major global events in 2024. MSI 2024 will be held from 1-19 May in Chengdu, China, marking the first time that a global LoL Esports event will take place in this vibrant city. Fans can look forward to updates on tickets, schedules, and more in the near future.

Additionally, Worlds 2024 will return to Europe, with the Finals set to be held in London, England, at the iconic O2 Arena. The tournament will kick off in Berlin at the newly remodeled Riot Games Arena for the Play-Ins and Swiss Stages. The Quarterfinals and Semifinals will then take place at the Adidas Arena in Paris, France.

Worlds 2024 is scheduled to run from 25 September to 2 November, and fans can anticipate further updates throughout the year on how to be part of the thrilling action. Stay tuned for more exciting information!

Hall of Legends

As the 2024 season begins, LoL Esports is proud to commemorate 14 incredible years of competitive play. Over the past decade, pro players from all corners of the world have showcased their resilience, mastery of League of Legends, and have inspired millions of fans worldwide. To honor those who have left a lasting impact on the game, the sport, and the community, we are excited to introduce the LoL Esports Hall of Legends.

The LoL Esports Hall of Legends will recognize and celebrate pro players who have made significant contributions to the game. To ensure a fair and unbiased selection process, an independent voting panel consisting of esports industry veterans and experts from every region has been assembled to vote and select the inaugural inductee.

Each year, the Hall of Legends inductees will be honored both in real life and in-game, commemorating their historic careers. The voting process is currently underway, and more information will be shared in the coming months. Stay tuned for updates as we celebrate the extraordinary achievements of these legendary players.
