At just 15 years and 181 days old, Ethan Nwaneri made history in the Premier League when he stepped onto the pitch for Arsenal in the final minutes of their 3-0 victory over Brentford earlier this season. As the youngest player ever to appear in an English top-flight game, Nwaneri quickly gained attention from top clubs around the world. With interest from these clubs heating up, Nwaneri may depart from Arsenal in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The attacking midfielder emerged from Arsenal's Hale End academy, which has been responsible for producing many of the club's talented players in recent years. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was impressed by Nwaneri's potential and attributes and said that he was provided with valuable information by the club's academy manager, Per Mertesacker, and sporting director, Edu.

'We all hope he stays'

Nwaneri's sole performance for the senior team was a brief one in west London. However, the youngster has since returned to his more familiar surroundings. He will have a chance to make an impression when Arsenal host Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup semi-final, where he is expected to be one of the star names. Despite this, there is a lot of speculation surrounding Nwaneri's future.

Having just turned 16 years old last month, Nwaneri has only made one senior appearance for Arsenal. There is a possibility that he could end up playing for another team in the Premier League the next time he appears. Jack Wilshere, Arsenal's Under-18s coach, was unable to provide any reassurances when questioned about this prospect. "We all hope he stays because he's an exceptional talent," he said. "But as coaches, we don't get involved and we don't talk about that. Our job is to develop Ethan to help him when he goes with the first team."

A desirable talent

Nwaneri, one of the top young talents in England, is highly sought after by several clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester City. Both clubs are reportedly making efforts to entice him away from Arsenal before he signs his first professional contract at the age of 17. Although Arsenal is hopeful that he will remain with them, it is not a certainty. Losing a player they have developed since he was nine would be a significant setback for the Gunners. However, all they can do at the moment is to continue guiding him in the same way they have and hope that it will be enough to convince him to stay.

When asked about Nwaneri's future, Wilshere declined to comment and stated that it is a matter for Per or Mikel to handle. He is focused on helping Nwaneri when he joins the first team. Mikel has mentioned that Nwaneri "gets it," which highlights the importance of aligning with the first team and speaking the same football language. As coaches, their focus is on providing Nwaneri with the best possible platform and a clear head.

'A big future'

Nwaneri is juggling both football and school, despite being the youngest player in Premier League history. Like any other 16-year-old, he will be taking his GCSEs later this year. Arsenal is carefully managing this situation, with a strong emphasis on education at their Hale End academy.

Nwaneri's talent has been on Arsenal's radar for some time

Per Mertesacker, a key figure at Hale End believes in the importance of developing better people to create better players. Jack Wilshere echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of Ethan's academic achievements.

Nwaneri's talent has been on Arsenal's radar for some time. He played with higher age groups and scored for the U14s as a 12-year-old. He also made a splash by scoring two goals on his debut for the U18s at just 14 years old. Granit Xhaka praised Nwaneri's exceptional talent, noting his stark difference in skill compared to his peers. He believes Nwaneri has a bright future ahead of him.

Youth Cup dreams

Nwaneri has been keeping his focus on performing at the youth level this season, despite rumors about his future. He has been an outstanding player in the Youth Cup semi-finals and will showcase his skills against City, who are interested in signing him, at the Emirates on Tuesday. Nwaneri trained with Arteta's senior squad last week and scored a goal in the quarter-final match against Cambridge.

Wilshere, who was part of Arsenal's 2009 winning team, praised Nwaneri's exceptional ability to manage school and social media pressure while performing well in the Youth Cup. Myles Lewis-Skelly, another promising Arsenal talent, will also be playing against City on Tuesday, but the club is confident in retaining him.

Top clubs naturally attract competition for the best young talent, and Arsenal hopes to keep Nwaneri despite losing Omari Hutchinson to Chelsea last summer. Nonetheless, Wilshere has positive wishes for Nwaneri's future, acknowledging the sacrifices he has made.
