The owner of Chelsea appears to be an idiotic 'moron'

After snatching their previous manager from Brighton for a world-record sum, the Blues fired him after just 100 days in charge.

In September, Todd Boehly acknowledged that Chelsea's new owners were well-versed in "people and human capital," as well as "game plans and strategies," but they didn't anticipate being football experts. This is a good thing, considering their current performance makes them seem like bumbling fools.

Without a doubt, Graham Potter deserved to be fired as Chelsea's manager. Managers are evaluated based on results, and Potter's were abysmal.

On Saturday, Aston Villa defeated Chelsea 2-0 at home, marking Potter's 11th defeat in 31 games as the former Brighton boss. He inherited a team in sixth place in the Premier League, but left them in 11th place, 12 points behind a Champions League position.

He left Chelsea with the second-lowest points-per-game average (1.27) of any manager during the Premier League era. To make matters worse, there was a lack of progress and clarity on his plans. His tactical decisions and team choices were confusing and failed to gain the support of the skeptical fan base. Nonetheless, the fact that Potter was fired just 100 days after taking over as manager says more about the club's management than his difficulties at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel's dismissal will be dearly regretted by Chelsea

Remember, Potter was hired by Boehly & Co. because they wanted a manager who was willing to collaborate with them, and in that regard, Potter did not disappoint. According to the official statement released when Potter was dismissed, he had agreed to work with the club to ensure a smooth transition. However, there is no denying that the current situation at Chelsea is a mess created by the owner.

Tuchel's dismissal will be dearly regretted by Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel has fired only six games into the 2022-23 season, and Potter was brought in to replace him, which Jamie Carragher called a ridiculous decision. Tuchel had won three trophies in 18 months, including the Champions League. Chelsea was known for its "hire-and-fire" policy under Roman Abramovich, but the new owners were supposed to be different.

However, Boehly argued that there were many barriers to breaking down at Chelsea, and Tuchel was one of them. This decision did nothing to dispel the suspicion that Chelsea was making things up as they went along. Even Christian Heidel, the sporting director of Mainz, criticized the decision, saying that it was purely an investor's choice and that Chelsea would regret it.

An unwillingness to stand out for one's beliefs

Potter is an accomplished coach, as evidenced by his success at Brighton. However, he has always required time to implement his strategies. When he joined Chelsea, he encountered a state of constant flux, with a plethora of expensive new signings arriving in January, further exacerbating an already bloated and imbalanced squad.

If they were going to be dissuaded by a poor run of results after less than seven months in charge, what was the point of replacing a proven winner like Tuchel with Potter for a long-term project? Although there were reasons for his dismissal, such as player and fan unrest in addition to the results, it appears to reflect a lack of conviction and bravery.

An unwillingness to stand out for one's beliefs

At the very least, it is an admission that they made a horrendous blunder in their most significant appointment thus far. Chelsea was so convinced of Potter's potential that they paid a world-record compensation package of £21.5m ($26.3m) to lure him away from Brighton.

They further supported their new boss by bringing in many of his former colleagues at the Amex Stadium, including co-sporting director Paul Winstanley, who was one of the driving forces behind the decision to dismiss Potter. The fact that even Winstanley had lost faith speaks volumes about just how poorly Potter performed.

Chelsea playing 'Football Manager'

Although some Chelsea fans are celebrating the departure of "the worst manager we've had in 20 years," they should also hold Boehly and his fellow investors accountable for their lack of financial prudence. Their approach to the transfer market, resembling that of a football manager, has placed the already financially struggling club in jeopardy of violating Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Chelsea playing 'Football Manager'

To balance the books, the club will have to sell several players this summer. However, this is not an easy task, especially when dealing with players on long-term, high-paying contracts. As a result, the newly hired "football experts" will have a significant challenge on their hands. They will not only have to generate funds by reducing the size of the squad but also make it more suitable for the requirements of the new manager.

Above all, time will be of the essence, something that Boehly did not provide Tuchel or Potter. The new management will need a substantial amount of time to execute the necessary changes.
