Nils Liedholm was the manager who led Roma to the most titles, including one Serie A title in the 1982-83 season and three Coppa Italia in the 1979-80, 1980-81, and 1983-84 seasons. He also helped the club reach the finals of the 1983-84 European Cup, Serie A, and the 1980-81 Serie A and finished second. The 1983-84 season of Roma seemed to be a relatively successful season by reaching the last round of two prestigious competitions European Cup and Serie A, as well as winning the Coppa Italia.

Nils Liedholm also had other three spells being responsible for the club, from 1973 to 1977, 1987 to 1989, and within the 1996-97 season. However, he didn’t achieve any title during these periods. In total, Nils Liedholm was the longest-serving manager in the history of A.S. Roma, with 12 seasons in four different spells.

Followed by Nils Liedholm is Luciano Spalletti with three titles, including two Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana between 2006 and 2008. Other managers typically just had a short time working as a head coach of Roma without leaving many impressions or any title.

The most recent manager before Mourinho is Paulo Fonseca, a Portuguese football manager. He left Roma after two seasons coaching the club. They won 53 matches out of 102 games from 2019 to 2021 with the highest achievement being the semi-final slot in the 2020-21 UEFA Europa League. After his departure from Roma, he grabbed the attention of Fabio Paratici, the Managing Director of Football for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. Sooner or later, Fonseca will be hired to become the new coach of Hotspurs.

The 2021-22 season of Roma has witnessed a change in their manager. Jose Mourinho was appointed to be the head coach of Serie A club Roma on 4 May 2021. In an interview with one of the all-time legendary players of Roma, Francesco Totti, this former player showed his admiration and delight for Roma for having Mourinho as their manager. “We have brought in the best coach in the world”- according to Totti.

He has received plenty of Coach of the Years awards, as well as Manager of the Month, Manager of the Season in different top-flight football tournaments like Premier League, Serie A, or La Liga.

Before becoming the new manager of Roma from the 2021-22 season for an unknown contract, Jose Mourinho used to work as a head coach of numerous top-notch clubs like Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Man United, or Hotspur.
