In a significant turn of events, Chelsea has secured a successful £111 million deal for the 21-year-old Ecuadorian player. This development comes after a series of previous proposals submitted by Chelsea were rejected by Brighton over the course of the summer.

This achievement marks Chelsea's second British record-breaking transaction in 2023, building upon their earlier £107 million acquisition of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez in January.

Although Caicedo was notably absent from Brighton's squad during their season-opening triumph against Luton Town, he is yet to undergo a medical examination.

The initial payment is reported to be £100 million, with additional installments structured in a way that renders half of them easily attainable. Brighton has also negotiated a sell-on clause.

Brighton had set an asking price exceeding £100 million for Caicedo during the summer transfer window, expressing skepticism that any club would meet such a valuation. Chelsea's prior bid was rumored to be £80 million.

Addressing the matter, Brighton's manager Roberto de Zerbi conveyed in a press conference preceding the Seagulls' match against Luton, that he had already shifted his focus away from Caicedo. He emphasized, "Bigger clubs can buy our players but they can't buy our soul or spirit."

Caicedo initially joined Brighton from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle for £4 million in February 2021, making his Premier League debut in April 2022.

Having expressed his desire to depart Brighton in the January transfer window earlier this year, Caicedo encountered multiple unsuccessful bids from Arsenal before ultimately renewing his contract until 2027 in March.

Caicedo's acquisition marks Chelsea's eighth signing this summer, following the additions of Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Angelo Gabriel, Robert Sanchez, and Diego Moreira.

Under the stewardship of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, a significant squad overhaul has been prioritized, aiming to dramatically improve upon the previous season's 12th-place finish in the Premier League.

This summer has seen a substantial exodus from Chelsea, with notable departures including Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, N'Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ethan Ampadu, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Abdul Rahman Baba, and former captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

Chelsea kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at home on Sunday.
