Cole Palmer signed a seven-year contract upon joining Chelsea in September 2023, and he will be 31 years old if he remains at the club until the end of his newly extended deal.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has now committed to a nine-year deal with improved terms following a sensational breakthrough season in west London.

Palmer, who joined Chelsea for £42.5 million from Manchester City last summer, made an immediate impact by scoring 25 goals and providing 15 assists in 45 appearances during his first season at the club.

Chelsea have been eager to reward the England international, who also scored in the Euro 2024 final where England fell 2-1 to Spain, with a new contract. The announcement of the deal is expected in the coming days.

Palmer is on the shortlist for both the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year awards, which will be announced in Salford next week. He has already claimed the Premier League Young Player of the Season award for 2023-24.

Chelsea will kick off their Premier League campaign on Sunday against Manchester City, with manager Enzo Maresca set to face his former club, where he helped secure the Treble in 2022-23 as Pep Guardiola's assistant. Last season, Maresca led Leicester City to promotion by winning the Championship title.
