Haaland has returned to Norway.

Erling Haaland will be unavailable for Manchester City's Carabao Cup match against Watford.

The City striker, who scored his 10th league goal in just five games during Sunday’s heated draw with Arsenal, has been granted time off following the death of a family friend. Ivar Eggja, who was close to Haaland and served as the best man at his father’s wedding, passed away earlier this month at the age of 59. Haaland has returned to Norway to attend the funeral, which is scheduled for this week.

While he was offered compassionate leave by the club, Haaland chose to remain for recent matches against Brentford, Arsenal, and Inter Milan in the Champions League. He is expected to return for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United at St James’s Park.

Haaland will be available for the trip to Tyneside after the Premier League announced that no disciplinary action will be taken against him for his actions during Sunday’s match, which included throwing the ball at Gabriel Magalhaes and instigating a confrontation with Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus after the final whistle.

Haaland sarcastically told Arteta to “stay humble” while instructing former City striker Jesus to "get the f*** away" from him.

The Premier League has opted not to impose any retrospective punishment on either player. Haaland's incident of throwing the ball at Gabriel after reflecting on Stones’ rebound was reviewed by VAR during the match, which concluded that it did not meet the threshold for intervention.
