Italy's provisional squad for Euro 2024 sees notable absentees such as Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli, Lazio striker Ciro Immobile, and midfielder Marco Verratti, who now plays for Qatari side Al-Arabi after departing Paris St-Germain last September.

Since taking over from Roberto Mancini in August 2023, Italy coach Luciano Spalletti hasn't called up Verratti. Italy, the defending champions, secured victory in the previous tournament against England, although they didn't qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Spalletti has made some interesting inclusions, such as Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, who recently returned to action following a seven-month ban for breaching betting rules. Additionally, striker Gianluca Scamacca, who missed Italy's friendlies in March, makes the squad after winning the Europa League with Atalanta.

The deadline for final squads, which can include up to 26 players, is midnight on 7 June. Italy is set to play friendlies against Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina before kicking off their Euro 2024 campaign against Albania on 15 June. They are grouped with Spain and Croatia.
