Luis Enrique Issues "Dangerous" Instruction to Mbappe Against Dortmund

Luis Enrique has disclosed the tactical directive he intends to impart to Kylian Mbappe for PSG's upcoming Champions League semi-final second leg on Tuesday.

Enrique clarified that while PSG is anticipated to defend collectively, with even their top stars contributing defensively, he intends for Mbappe to maintain an advanced position when the team is in possession. This strategy aims to leverage Mbappe's strengths and exploit vulnerabilities in Borussia Dortmund's defense, enabling him to have a greater impact in crucial areas of the pitch.

In the first leg, Dortmund effectively neutralized Mbappe, limiting his influence on the game. Despite a near miss when he struck the inside post, Mbappe largely operated on the fringes of the match and found it challenging to receive the ball in advanced positions.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Enrique said: "I don't want the striker to go for the ball in midfield, I want the striker to touch the ball in critical areas and that's difficult. I know you really want to talk about Kylian and I'm used to talking about Kylian. As an objective, we want to find our best players. Obviously our opponents are not going to leave him free at the penalty spot, they are going to let him touch the ball in midfield. I want him to go and touch it where he is dangerous."

With Ligue 1 already secured this season, PSG can now focus solely on their quest to reach only their second Champions League final. However, they face a deficit, trailing Dortmund 1-0 on aggregate heading into Tuesday's second leg in Paris. Success would potentially lead them to two finals in the span of a week, as they are set to compete in the 2024 Coupe de France final against Lyon on May 25, just seven days before the Champions League final at Wembley.
