Martin Zubimendi is seeking a move to Liverpool in January.

Martin Zubimendi reportedly regrets turning down a move to Liverpool and is now hoping for a transfer in January.

The midfielder was set to join the Reds in a £51.3 million deal from Real Sociedad during the summer, with new manager Arne Slot looking to make him a key part of his midfield. However, Zubimendi withdrew from the deal at the last moment and chose to stay in San Sebastián, where he has started all but one game this season.

Despite his regular appearances, Sociedad's campaign has been challenging, with only one win so far, leaving them in 16th place in La Liga. This difficult start has led Zubimendi to reconsider his position and express a desire for Liverpool to reignite their interest.

According to Estadio Deportivo, he has asked Liverpool to explore the possibility of signing him again. Concerns over Sociedad's sporting direction are influencing his change of heart.

Now, it's up to Liverpool to decide whether to return with another £51.3 million bid, as Zubimendi's contract runs for another three years. The 25-year-old is determined to become a Liverpool player in January, marking a significant shift from his earlier stance, where he had maintained satisfaction with his decision to stay.

“No, no, my friends are clear that whatever I decide [for my future] will be the best. There is no pressure whatsoever. Real Sociedad for me is my life, I think I have spent half my life there. A lot of what I am is part of la Real, it is my life," he told Marca.

"[Our goal to qualify for] Europe is clear. The higher the position, the better. We have to look for our best version and, above all, compete. To feel competitive, to be recognised and to be seen with personality."

When Zubimendi decided to reject a move to Anfield, Liverpool boss Arne Slot downplayed the significance of the decision. He insisted that the squad was already strong enough to compete for the season ahead, highlighting his confidence in the players already at his disposal.

"I said many times already that I think our squad is really strong and it is not so easy to find players that can help us or can even strengthen the squad. Zubimendi was one of them, to be fair, but he decided not to come and then we go forward with the ones we have," he said.

"Those ones have done really well in pre-season. So, we’re in a good place and like I said many times before. Unfortunately Zubimendi decided not to come, if a player doesn’t want to come it’s obvious that he is not coming."
